I seriously recommoned that Yahoo should ban you from their site because of your negativity and the way you respond. "I don't know why you would have a problem with the way BosCFA answered that question. It seems pretty reasonable to me. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. By the way...you might want to look up the difference between a CFA and a CFO if you're starting your own investment bank. It'll come in handy." Wow pretty tough guy. Hey bud i made a an error when i was typing the details out. FOOL.

A: If you don't know what an investment bank does, why would you want to start one? An investment bank's primary business is underwriting corporate debt and equity offerings. The investment bankers work with corporations to determine the most appropriate valuation for the debt or equity and then market the offering, and finally sell it in the public markets. The investment banks also tend to offer ongoing investment research on companies that they issue, though this has certainly gotten a lot of scrutiny and in theory, the research side of the business is separate from the underwriting side. It would require a pretty extraordinary amount of cash to start one, as well as pretty heavy industry connections. You would need to market your services to corporations, and explain why you will be able to get them a better price on their equity or a lower rate on their debt than Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan could. You would need to hire good analysts to help you determine the appropriate valuations for firms. You would need to learn phone numbers for every major trading desk so you could gauge interest in your issues, and you would need lots of lawyers. So...good luck with all that.

Q: How stressful is it to work in London in an investment bank or similar environment?
I've been thinking of moving from York to central London with the hope of getting a job in a large investment bank. I have some friends who are working in investment banks of which a couple have moved from places like Surrey to be in London. There seems to be a popular theme of stress and long unbearable working hours when working in London, specifically in financial companies. I want to know how much of this is actually true and whether its just caused by bad self management? I feel extremely driven and have always enjoyed being in London and think I could cope, but never actually worked there. Working in York seems too chilled out and quiet but is it worth moving to work in the city for the higher salary? Is working in an investment bank or other financial firms in the city really too stressful to handle?

A: dont think investment bankers that work in london have time to visit yahoo answers so ur bestbet is to move here and ask one ur self

Q: How do you get an Investment Bank to raise stock shares for your project?
What are the requirements that an Investment Bank needs to raise capital to either sell shares to make a new product OR start a company? Do you have to have your own capital to begin with? Yes? No?

A: Investment banks don't just raise money for anyone. Usually, the company has to be around for at least a few years with a solid track record before they will even sit down with you. When an investment bank brings a company public, the offer an IPO is which it goes around and sells the share to investors. No one is going to pay very much for a company that doesn't even exists prior to the IPO, even if it has an all-star management staff. The proper way to go about it would to start up a company with your own capital (or borrowed capital) and make it a successful for a couple of years. Then seek out venture capitalist to invest in your company (very difficult), then you would try to bring it public after a few years with the venture capitalist. Going public is not an easy process nor is it cheap, and is no way that one will be able to convince an investment bank to bring an upstart company public.

Q: How do you compare the balance sheet of an investment bank to one of a finance company?
How fixed are the items on the balance sheet of an investment bank as opposed to a finance comapny? Why are they so different?

A: Not to worry about the way the balance sheet is presented. They are a few key parameters you might be interested like operating profit, Return on Investment/Equity, Earnings per share, top line growth...These are sufficient enough to give you a fair idea of the organization performance.

Q: How many years would it take a Investment Banker to Make A Million after business school and a investment bank
How many years would it take a Investment Banker to Make A Million after business school and a investment bank?

A: Frequently, the first year bonus tops a million. Of course, with compensation like that, there is a lot of competition. A lot of MBAs who want to get jobs with investment banks are turned down and have to take jobs in marketing or personal banking. Then, quite a few who get jobs with investment banking companies actually have jobs in administration or sales, and aren't really employed as "investment bankers".

Q: How can i get a work placement for a support role in an investment bank in london?

A: As there are financial markets across the world, London plays a crucial role because it bridges the time zones between the US and the Far East. The main roles you may aspire are :- Research – gathering, analyzing and reporting on information about companies and the financial situation. Sales – building relationships with clients, giving advice and selling financial products. Trading – buying and selling financial products to make a profit. Corporate finance and banking – helping clients to raise money for expansion; advising clients on takeovers and mergers with other companies. Please research, using employers’ websites, is the best way to start. Look for descriptions of the types of career opportunities available and the qualities they seek from prospective recruits.

Q: What are the tasks and responsibilites of an employee working in operations for a large investment bank?
I am looking to familiarize myself with the responsibilites one would have working in the operations department of an investment bank. What does a manager look for in a qualified employee?

A: Take a look at some of the job descriptions for a start. +eFinancial Careers http://jobs.efinancialcareers.com/Operations.htm To do well, you'll need a can-do attitude, a quantitative mindset, a way with people (read: able to succeed in teamwork), and to create opportunities where most would think can't exist. Reaching out to current alumni from your school, or directly contacting the bank for an informational interview would provide the best insight.

Q: How often do companies get revaluated by an investment bank to increase stock price?
"You could get your books in order, have your company valuated, and offer a second block of stocks at a price an investment bank determines. If you show promising growth, the value of the second offering could help the existing share price increase as well."

A: Why would anyone buy your second share offering at a price higher than the stock that is already trading?

Q: What's the main difference between being at a bulge bracket investment bank in NY and CHI?
What's the main difference between being at a bulge bracket investment bank in NY and CHI? Skill level? Deal Size?

A: You won't see a huge gap in deal size - you'll probably work on more Midwestern companies in Chicago and more financial companies in NYC. The city that you're in really doesn't say much about skill level - maybe a bit about personality, though (NYC can be crazy workaholic, while Chicago is just normal workaholic). The big difference will be in compensation - you will make WAY more money in Chicago! Your salary in NYC would probably look up to 20% better on paper, but as far as cost of living goes, people in Chicago can get almost twice what people in NYC can find. For what you would pay for a 600 sqft studio apartment in the Upper East Side, you can get a 2 bedroom place in The Loop.

Q: Which investment bank, such as Morgan Stanley, have been involved in the least amount of scandals?
Do you know? Or better yet, where could I find the info, so I can check periodically for updates? My portfolio is not very large, but I would prefer to make a statement and hopefully ensure my business will be appreciated when choosing a bank. Many investment banks have done a disservice to all investors, let alone the smaller ones like myself, by fluffing stock analysis of their clients. I am looking for an investment bank to manage a small personal investment account. Would it be easier to tell me the investment banks who have been fined the most?

A: Investment banks do not necessarily attempt to avoid scandalous situations. They do however attempt to avoid being caught in them. Normally but not always investors think it more important for an investment bank to generate profits in whatever manner seems best to them. If a scandal surfaces, oh darn. A few bucks passed to the right politicians and that will be the end of that.

Q: Becoming a lawyer for an investment bank or dealing with stock issues?
what law schools offer programs that specialize in stocks or investment law? and what are the best ones? How much do lawyers that practice invesment law get paid? How hard is it to get into a school and how competitive is the job market? What do investment lawyers typically do? and do they work for law firms or invesment banks?

A: Work hard to get to a very good law school and work hard while in law school. You don't want to be a lawyer for an investment bank - IPO and M&A work is always done by external legal teams. Schools? Think top 10-15. Law firms? Skadden, Simpson Thatcher, Davis Polk, Sullivan & Cromwell, Jones Day, Weil Gotschal are some of the best. Competitive? You better believe it.
